ENS: Evaluating three architecture expansion options for ENS v2, ENS DAO plans to launch a funding proposal to support its development

BlockBeats news, on September 10, according to ENS official news, ENS v2 release progress update, the current ENS v2 architecture focuses on three options:

The first option involves expanding ENS directly to an existing public ZK blockchain (such as Scroll and Taiko, etc.), or it can utilize Optimistic L2 with ZK proof function, which has the lowest chain development and long-term maintenance costs, but sacrifices the independence of ENS governance from the public chain to a certain extent;

The second option is to deploy your own ZK chain instance, which provides the team with greater flexibility;

The third option involves developing a custom zkVM (zero-knowledge virtual machine) specifically optimized for ENS operations, and is exploring this option in collaboration with Axiom.

The ENS team will next test the performance, cost efficiency, and scalability of the three paths, using concrete data to guide its decisions. It is improving the ENSv2 architecture, including a layered registry system and an updated universal resolver. To support this work, the ENS DAO is preparing a funding proposal that will roughly outline the resources needed to implement ENS V2. The current team aims to make a final recommendation for the ENS V2 L2 strategy in the coming months.
