BlockBeats News, January 2nd, according to Tech Crunch's report, Telegram has released its first update of the year, adding third-party-supported account verification methods, new message search filters, and the ability to convert gifts into NFTs. Third-party verified accounts will display a unique new badge instead of the traditional blue checkmark.
Telegram stated in a blog post: "This decentralized additional verification platform effectively prevents fraud, reduces misinformation, and, with a unique proactive solution, sets a new security standard for social platforms." Telegram also introduced a way to convert gifts into NFTs with custom backgrounds and icons. Users can send gifts by spending Telegram Stars, which can be purchased through in-app purchases or connected to a TON encrypted wallet and purchased on the Fragment website. Telegram stated that users will be able to trade these NFTs on different platforms. It is worth noting that to cover blockchain transaction fees, Telegram will charge users for upgrading gifts to collectibles.
Telegram is also leveraging cryptocurrency to provide monetization avenues for creators, as well as a payment method for games and mini-apps on the platform. They have also introduced emoji reactions for service messages (such as someone joining a group) and new search filters for private chats, group chats, and channels.
