Vitalik: If the Ethereum Foundation stakes ETH, it will have to take a stance in case of a contentious hard fork

BlockBeats News, January 20th, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on social media regarding the suggestion that "the Ethereum Foundation could stake its ETH," saying, "Historical concerns were: 1. regulatory issues; 2. if the Ethereum Foundation were to stake by themselves, this would de facto commit us to a position in any future contentious hard fork."

Regulatory concerns have decreased compared to before, but there are still issues with the Ethereum Foundation staking by themselves. There are definitely ways to minimize these, and we have been exploring these methods recently."
