U.S. Consumer Confidence Shows Signs of Weakness, Inflation Expectations Hold onto Most of the Gain Since the Election

2025-01-25 00:14

BlockBeats News, January 25th. In the United States, the final value of the one-year inflation rate expectation in January was 3.3%, with an expectation of 3.2% and a previous value of 3.30%. The final value of the University of Michigan's Consumer Sentiment Index in January was 71.1, with an expectation of 73.2 and a previous value of 73.2.

The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment survey at the end of January showed some signs of softness, with the overall index dropping from this month's initial value of 73.2 and December's 74.0 to 71.1, the lowest level since before the election (October was 70.5), indicating more skepticism as the new government is about to take office. The inflation expectation continued most of its post-election gains, which may also be related to this. The median annual inflation expectation remained at the January value of 3.3%, higher than December's 2.8% and October's 2.7%. The five-year rate expectation dropped from 3.3% at the beginning of the month to 3.2%, but still higher than December and October last year at 3.0%, reaching the highest month-end rate since mid-2008.
