Original Title: "Monthly Recap | Want a 'Zen' Mode Information Flow?"
Original Source: Chainfeeds

Starting this month, I will discuss with you my observations on the cryptocurrency industry, technical research, and updates to the ChainFeeds product itself. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights

Recently, I have had some discussions with friends offline. On the surface, it seems that the Web3 industry has entered a period of fatigue. Despite the emergence of new technologies and concepts, without the driving force of market trends, they seem uninteresting. In summary, the development of technology without market trends seems to be less attractive.

When we discuss the technological advancements and interesting new projects in this industry, it seems to come with an implicit assumption.

Recall how much of the information we encounter every day involves trading, markets, Alpha, airdrops, and other related content? This is the true face of the Web3 industry.

Among the users I have encountered, these two types of information (market VS technology) seem to interfere with and create noise for each other. However, they are not actually contradictory, and many users will cross-reference them, so there is no need to separate them too strictly.

Despite this, I still want to add a feature on ChainFeeds.xyz and ChainBuzz.xyz which may be called "Zen" or "Pure" mode. When this feature is enabled, a certain type of information will be hidden.

Do you need this feature?

Friend.Tech

The hottest topic in August is undoubtedly Friend.Tech. As a social phenomenon product, it once again tries to challenge concepts such as Social Token and influence financialization. The biggest difference from its predecessors is that Paradigm personally intervened, which is also one of the important reasons for attracting so much attention.

This topic has been discussed thoroughly, including various perspectives, product advantages, and future plans. You can refer to these introductions and opinions about Friend.Tech:

Influence assetization, can friend.tech be sustainable? Paradigm invests in seed round, will the airdrop expectation be "anti-rubbed"?

I feel that this is a product that Paradigm is very focused on. This can be seen from the pace of previous product launches, as well as the speed of third-party tools and product iterations, and the coordination of operations and marketing strategies. Although its activity has decreased a lot, its impact on the market should continue for a period of time.

SBC 23 / Stanford Blockchain Week

Stanford Blockchain Week is also the most important and hardcore offline event in August, and there should be replay videos about the event later. Since I didn't attend, I invited two friends, Eva and Reffo, to provide me with some of their observations and insights from the event. You are also welcome to follow their X account to get more follow-up summaries of this event.

What do you think is the composition of participants in SBC?

Eva: Developers, researchers (funded by foundations or EF), venture capitalists, project parties.

Reffo: Infrastructure developers (project parties) and venture capitalists make up the majority, with fewer professors and students, but I haven't had much contact with them, so there may be some deviation.

This time, what topics and keywords do you feel everyone is talking about more?

Eva: It feels like people are talking more about programmable privacy, DA (Data Availability, Data Publishing, Data Storage), PEPC/PBS, and Crypto x AI (which may also be related to my own information cocoon).

Reffo: Privacy and EIP-4844 are talked about more frequently, while ZK has clearly cooled down. MEV is also quite popular, mainly due to Flashbots.

What are some speeches you would recommend?

Eva:

1. Cooperative AI with Decentralized Trust

2. A Pragmatic Path to an N-Rollup Future

3. Designing a DV Protocol for Decentralized PoS Consensus

4. SGXonerated: Finding (and Partially Fixing) Privacy Flaws in TEE-based Smart Contract Platforms Without Breaking the TEE

Reffo: I highly recommend nocturne's "Usable Privacy From Stealth Addresses and Shielded Pools" for discussing privacy. I think it is currently underestimated.

What topics and issues do you pay more attention to?

Eva: I am more concerned about the DA Landscape and the corresponding Data Storage and Retrieval issues, as well as the possibility of SGX x reth.

Reffo: I am more concerned about privacy and on-chain data queries myself.

Shanhaiwu: The Experience of Divine Beasts

Last year, I participated in the "Wamao Summer" event in Dali. Although it was not held as planned due to various reasons, the scattered activities that came out of it can still be considered as a shared memory for everyone. Alternatively, it can also be seen as a mild experience of digital nomadism. Unlike Wamao, the location of Shanhaiwu is not as rich as Dali Ancient City, and participants did not have many tourist attractions to visit. Due to the off-season, most people participated in activities such as hiking and board games.

I gave a presentation in the first week (which earned me the title of "mythical creature") on the topic of "User-Centered Applications and Cross-Application Composability". It may sound complicated, but essentially it's about envisioning how data in future applications can be better owned by users and easily taken with them as they migrate between applications and tools.

This is also why I have been optimistic about Ceramic Network and the data network they are building. Unfortunately, I don't think I have been able to communicate these ideas very well. There is a lot of education and popularization costs involved, but if you want to learn more, the PDF of the presentation can be viewed or downloaded here.

As for other speeches, the most impressive one to me is Jiang's story of how he entered the industry, which is quite fascinating. His perspective is more focused on the observation and interest in technology, without much commercialization involved, which is also the charming aspect of the dWeb community. However, this is also the reason why Crypto can develop faster than dWeb: financialization. Many people may have forgotten what the original intention of the industry was.

Other than that, meeting more friends is the happiest thing for me this time (followed by playing Guandan and Pokemon). Finally, I strongly recommend everyone to pay more attention to these treasure boys (and girls): Fangting, Jiang, Estella, Eva, Hanyang, Luca (and many more that I couldn't list here).

Delegatable: The Possibility of a New User Experience

During the period of Shanhaiwu, Jiang once again talked to me about a public good developed by the MetaMask team last year called "Delegatable". He believed that combining this concept with Intent could enrich the scenarios of social applications, not just limited to DeFi. The content is in Chinese and does not need to be translated. The English words and phrases, as well as capitalized English words and phrases, should not be translated or omitted, such as ZKS, STARK, and SCROLL. If there are only punctuation marks in the content, return them directly in the original form. HTML tags in the content should not be translated, such as

, , ,

, etc. If there are English characters in the HTML tags, they should be omitted and returned directly. The content in the a link should be preserved and not translated.

I carefully reviewed all the WeChat chat records and found that only he and I had previously discussed Delegatable, and almost no one else mentioned it.

Then I also carefully watched the speech by MetaMask co-founder Dan Finlay at ETHDenver this year, "Better Dapps with Delegatable" . Although I didn't fully understand the technical details at the time, I was greatly shocked. Several user scenarios proposed in it can further reduce the threshold for users to use applications through Delegatable.

So I summarized the three cornerstones of the next-generation on-chain user experience on X: Layer2, EIP-4337 (account abstraction/contract wallet), and Delegatable (and Intent). Here is the link to my tweet.

After I released it, unexpectedly, Account Labs' Lixin told me that they are also working on a new thing that happens to be related to these three things. Let's look forward to their next product.

According to Dan, Delegatable can achieve the experience of "counterfactual" accounts.

For example, user A can authorize some permissions for operating smart contracts or assets outside the chain to B through signature. B does not need to redeem the asset immediately, but only needs to go on-chain when he wants to redeem it. Even his wallet can be created at the time of redemption.

除此之外,这些授权的逻辑可以在链外不断扩展:B 可以把获得的授权继续传递给 C,以此类推。

Translation:

In addition, the logic of these authorizations can be continuously extended outside the chain: B can continue to pass on the obtained authorization to C, and so on.

As for the specific usage of Delegatable and its relation to Intent, we are still trying to conduct some technical experiments and will synchronize once there is progress.

ChainBuzz Update: GPT-4 + X Aggregation

As another one of our products, ChainBuzz.xyz has always been our testing ground. Recently, we have added many interesting AI integrations to it, and even completely switched the language model from the original GPT-3.5 to GPT-4. Although the cost has increased significantly, our summarization and translation capabilities have also improved in sync.

The most noteworthy feature is the list function of X (Twitter), as well as the corresponding interpretation of the list. You can think of it as the hot search list of Weibo, where the top rankings are always the topics that experts in the industry (covering thousands of them) are most concerned about every day. However, what the websites or X's tweets on this list are writing about and why they made the list, we let GPT-4 interpret.

Additionally, we have grouped experts to focus on different rankings based on their interests. Currently, we cover the MEV and VC communities, but there is still significant room for improvement in our selection process.

Additionally, the new version of ChainFeeds has quietly gone live. Currently, other details are still being polished, so it has not yet been switched to the main version. If you are interested in the new version page, please feel free to use it and provide feedback.

Best Research Tool: Perplexity Pro with Copilot of GPT-4

After extensively using Perplexity as a research tool, I believe that it is currently the best choice.

Recently, I have recommended this tool to many people. It can really solve some pain points and problems in research. You can imagine it as a product similar to New Bing, but it has been greatly strengthened in all aspects and has undergone many optimizations.

Technically speaking, it combines at least AI Agent, language models (GPT-4 and Claude 2), and search engines (Google and academic search, etc.), greatly simplifying the work of researching specific topics.

However, the prerequisite for using this tool is that the information you want to research can be found on the Internet. It also has many flaws that need to be improved, but I have also summarized some tips during my use:

1. Choosing the GPT-4 model and enabling Copilot mode in the paid version is the most effective option.

2. If it is a non-paid version, try to open Copilot mode as much as possible, although there is a limit on the number of times;

3. For academic issues or problems that are not unique to the Chinese-speaking world, it is recommended to ask questions in English, as there are significant differences in language.

4. If you are worried that your English questions may not be accurate, you can use ChatGPT as an intermediary to help with both the translation of questions from Chinese to English and the translation of answers from English to Chinese.

5. For the content of Web3, it can actually provide very good results;

6. If you know for sure that the research content mainly comes from papers, you can open the Academic feature, which will be more accurate.

I have selected some questions I raised and their corresponding answers, which should help you understand its actual capabilities.
