An in-app notification stated that this shutdown was a "voluntary" decision by TikTok to cease its U.S. operations. U.S. President-elect Trump, in an interview with NBC on the 18th, said he is "very likely" to grant the short video social media platform TikTok a 90-day reprieve on his first day in office on the 20th to temporarily prevent it from being banned in the United States.
